Rhode Island ACA Deadline Update Effective in 2023

On Oct 19 2022, the RI Division of Taxation (part of the RI Department of Revenue) released an advisory for taxpayers and tax professionals regarding ACA individual mandate filing deadlines.

Rhode Island ACA Deadlines

The advisory states that the Rhode Island ACA deadlines for both furnishing forms and reporting with the state have been updated.

  • The furnishing deadline permanently changed to March 2
  • The reporting deadline changed from January 31 to March 31.

Both of these changes will go into effect starting in the 2023 reporting year for calendar year / tax year 2022.

These permanent deadline changes give filers more time to prepare and submit their information to the state of RI. The change also aligns with federal deadlines, as well.

Conclusion

The Rhode Island ACA deadline change will allow filers more time to complete their state reporting requirements, but these aren’t the only requirements to keep in mind.

Employers must keep any applicable ACA state requirements in mind when completing their filings. It’s imperative that employers ensure that both state and federal requirements are met prior to each applicable deadline.

Staying up to date with Rhode Island ACA changes, other state and federal ACA changes, and keeping up with compliance efforts will help filers avoid filing penalties for ACA forms. This is incredibly important now more than ever, as fine amounts and tax enforcement are increasing.
