D.C. ACA Filing
D.C. now requires ACA filing for the 2019 tax year. The District of Columbia will now require all District residents to have Minimum Essential Coverage for themselves and dependents, or pay a tax penalty. The D.C. law also requires employers to submit an information return regarding Minimum Essential Coverage to the D.C. Office of Tax and Revenue. Continue reading to learn more about updates to D.C. Do I need to e-file my ACA forms with D.C.?
If you are an employer of at least 50 employees, and at least one D.C. resident, or if you provide Minimum Essential Coverage to at least one D.C. resident, ACA filing is required. These employers must sign up and file information returns with the D.C. Office of Tax and Revenue.
What about out-of-state filers?
Employers outside of D.C. who employ D.C. residents have the same ACA filing requirements as businesses within the District, even if the employer does not withhold and report D.C. taxes. If you are an employer outside of the District, you must ensure that we receive any required 1095 documents for each D.C. resident you employ.
What data format will be required?
The official specifications have not been released, but format is expected to be in .txt format instead of .xml, so this may differ from the standard filing format. More detailed specifications are expected to be released on October 20th.
What is the deadline to e-file?
For tax year 2019, the deadline to e-file your D.C. ACA filing forms is June 30th, 2020.
