The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has announced the annual schedules for the FIRE and IRIS Production cutover/shutdown for Tax Year 2023 (Filing Season 2024). During these periods, all transmission activities, including corrections and replacements for FIRE and IRIS, will be temporarily halted.
FIRE Production Cutover Schedules
The temporary closure FIRE production will begin at 3:00 pm ET on November 27, 2023. It is scheduled to reopen on January 8, 2024. Ongoing updates will be provided on the FIRE Status Page.
For submissions related to tax year 2022 or earlier, they must be completed and processed before the commencement of the shutdown on November 27, 2023.
IRIS Production Cutover Schedules
The IRIS production cutover is set to begin at 12:00 am ET on December 6, 2023. The specific date and time for when the system will be operational again are yet to be announced. Keep an eye on the IRIS Status Page for further updates.
Submissions for tax year 2022 or earlier need to be completed and processed before the start of the shutdown on December 6, 2023.
The publication of the FIRE and IRIS production cutover schedules signals the start of the filing season. To avoid any rush, it’s advisable to organize your 1099 data and begin your filing preparations early. This approach ensures ample time ahead of the deadlines.
Being proactive in compliance is important to avoid filing penalties and potential IRS notices related to 1099 forms, especially with the increased penalty amounts and stricter tax regulation enforcement.
Be sure to check deadlines to stay prepared for the upcoming filing season:
